Reviving a Maple Tree: Overcoming Manganese Deficiency

I'm excited to share a heartwarming success story about a remarkable maple tree that I had the privilege of helping in Mount Washington, Cincinnati, Ohio. As an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist at Gregory Forrest Lester, Inc., I observed this maple tree struggling with a manganese deficiency. Today, I'm delighted to witness this tree thriving with lush, green leaves in less than a year!

Understanding Manganese Deficiency in Maples

Manganese Deficiency in Maple

Maple trees, known for their stunning foliage, can sometimes face manganese deficiency, showing symptoms like yellowing leaves and interveinal chlorosis. Manganese is vital for photosynthesis and enzyme activation in trees. Without enough manganese, trees can't perform at their best.

Why Maples Experience Manganese Deficiency

There are several reasons why maples may encounter manganese deficiency. Soil pH is a major factor, with manganese becoming less available in alkaline soils. Compacted or poorly drained soil can also limit root access to manganese. Additionally, competition from other nutrients like iron or calcium can hinder manganese absorption by tree roots.

My Approach to Care

Diagnosing the manganese deficiency was straightforward—I could see it in the tree's symptoms on the leafs of this maple tree. Collaborating closely with the homeowner in Mount Washington, Cincinnati, Ohio, I recommended a micro-injection to increase manganese levels directly into the tree. Additionally, we applied our nutrient root hydration, a 100% natural organic product with over 11 ingredients, to enrich the soil. This product contains active Humic acid, which retains nutrient ions and mobilizes phosphates for tree uptake, including iron, manganese, and magnesium.

Witnessing the Maple's Resurgence

The transformation has been incredible! The maple tree, once struggling with yellowed leaves, has now blossomed into a canopy of vibrant green foliage. It's immensely satisfying to witness the positive impact of our efforts on this tree's well-being.
